  4. Optimistic seems to be the key of all.

Hajar Ismail, a joyful girl is having a great time in furthering her studies here in IIUM. “Here in IIUM is such a stark different from my last high school where we only had Malaysian people as students” says Hajar when interviewed last Friday.

As for Hajar, having the opportunity to study in an international university such as IIUM is a blessing. This first year accountancy student happens to enjoy her times here. Within two weeks, she already had friends all around the world due to her friendliness. “I always spent my time at the cafeteria with some of my Indonesian friends” she said.

Leading such a busy life as a student doesn’t stop her from her passion which is photography. “I named my DSLR camera as Bobby” she added.

Other than that, she is also an optimistic person. She looks everything from a positive sight. Thus, she never feels stress and always hoping for a better day for tomorrow. Those who suffer stressfull and feel restricted in their life should make her as an example In leading a better life. “I hope tomorrow will be much better day than today” she said as she ended our interview that day.

Her life in IIUM begins when she already finished her study at UiTM Shah Alam, doing Foundation in Law. Then, with that qualification, she will spend her next 4 years in IIUM to ensure she will enroll degree of law.

Challenges to pursue her dreams begin when she did not pass English Profiency Test (EPT) that allows her to enter kulliyyah. Never give up, she decide to study hard and smart to ensure next semester she will be in kulliyyah.

  9. Kuala Lumpur – After 3 weeks, Shyamira 19, a former student of UiTM Shah Alam still cannot adapt with new environment at IIUM. The differences of lifestyle, study, friends, food and place in IIUM made she miserable. Nur Shyamira said “ I do like it here, but I find myself thinking too much about how I actually miss my old university, my classmates and roomates, and basically having my own life away from home .”

Basically, she have no interest to study in CELPAD and it looks like she is very dissapointed because she cannot enter the Kulliyah yet as she failed in EPT test. “ I’m not interested to study English and Arabic all the times. But I have to learn it because it is one of the requirement to allow me enter the Kulliyah .”

From what she said, I can conclude that she get jealous when some of her friends in other universities such as UiTM, UM and UUM don’t need to sit for EPT and APT test. So, they can automatically enter to Kuliyyah and starting to learn law subject. Because of this situation, she felt that her life totally different as the way it used to be before. What she expect before enter IIUm is different with what she are facing now.

However she admitted that she felt better sometimes to be here as she can learn more things about Islam. She knows, God have something better for her and she believe something better awaits her in IIUM.

  11. Mariam Ali, a student in IIUM has been separated from her twin sister for the first time since elementary school. Yesterday she said: “it’s difficult to me”.

There is different between these sisters, Mariam has hard time to meet new people and also she is a shy person. However, her sister is a brave person so she has ability to make friendship quickly. So, Mariam depend on her sister in everything and she protects herself by her sister and she called her “my savior”.

In the last semester, they were together in the same class, sat side beside and talked each other. But the most things that Mariam missed in her class is the spirit of competition between her and her sister, she said:” I want it back”. So, that makes us wondering, Can Mariam adapt with her new situation or she can’t handle it?
